About the Opportunity We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our team. This position provides direct support to attorneys across a variety of practice areas, including Business, Estate Planning, and Litigation.
Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day administrative support to attorneys, including preparing correspondence, organizing case materials, and maintaining accurate file systems.
Prepare, proofread, and format legal documents, including pleadings, briefs, contracts, and estate planning documents.
File documents with courts and administrative bodies using MiFILE, federal CM/ECF, or first-class mail, as appropriate.
File documents with Michigan LARA using its online filing system, including articles of organization, annual reports, and assumed name certificates.
Manage attorney calendars, including scheduling hearings, deadlines, client meetings, and reminders.
Retrieve records and information from courts, agencies, and third-party vendors.
Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and external vendors.
Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
Assist with trial preparation, including assembling exhibits, witness materials, and hearing binders.
Perform legal research using court databases and online resources as directed.
Properly operate office technology, including printers, scanners, and photocopiers.
Qualifications
Prior experience as a legal assistant or legal secretary strongly preferred; experience in Business, Estate Planning, and Litigation practices is a plus.
Strong knowledge of legal terminology, Michigan court rules, and e-filing procedures.
High proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Outlook, Excel) and document formatting.
Exceptional attention to detail, grammar, and proofreading accuracy.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to prioritize workloads, meet deadlines, and manage multiple matters simultaneously.
Strong interpersonal skills with a commitment to professionalism and client service.
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also handling tasks independently.
