Electronics Engineer
Are you a passionate and skilled electronics engineer ready to take on a challenging and rewarding position? If so, please read on!
About the Company
Ambient Biosciences is disrupting the biomolecule stabilization industry through its patented technology platform. The technology is broadly applicable across a range of biomolecules including proteins, enzymes, antibodies, nucleic acids, and cells. Benefits of the technology include elimination of cold chain shipping and storage, increased multiplexing of reagents, and reduced stabilization development costs. We have launched our B2B stabilization as a service business for reagents and will launch our D2C stabilization tools early access program this fall.

About the Opportunity
The Electronics Engineer at Ambient will have ownership of all electronics of our current generation of stabilization products (including sustaining engineering activities, assembly, installation, and post-sales support) and play a vital role in the development of firmware, UI/UX and controls for the next generation of Ambient products. In addition, the role will support prototyping and development activities for novel stabilization products and internal R&D. This role offers the chance to make a significant impact on our products and provides ample opportunity for ownership of your work.
The key responsibilities of this role include:
- Owning sustaining engineering activities for all electronic components, assemblies, and firmware for the current generation of Ambient stabilization products.
- Supporting the development of firmware, UI/UX, and control circuits for the next generation of Ambient stabilization products.
- Performing assembly (mechanical, wiring, programming), testing and quality assurance activities for Ambient stabilization products.
- Developing PCBA-based product features on Ambient Bio products (analog, communications, digital signal processing, etc.).
- Solving challenging engineering problems by characterizing components, designing/prototyping analog front-end circuits, generating schematics, directing PCB layout, and debugging PCBAs in the labs.
- Developing and implementing control circuits and algorithms (e.g. PID) to achieve required functionality for stabilization products.
- Interfacing with multiple stakeholders including marketing, engineering, and laboratory scientists to gather requirements and develop UI/UX features for next generation products.
- Defining test criteria and implementing test plans on functional prototypes in the lab to prove the functionality, reliability and safety of the designed subsystems/products.
- Proposing and developing PCBA and subsystem qualification fixtures; modify and integrate the existing electrical and subsystem designs to achieve the desired functionality.
- Developing manufacturing cost estimates. Driving efforts to identify manufacturing requirements, cost reduction and quality improvement opportunities, and evaluating potential manufacturing partners.
- Performing installation and qualification activities internally and at customer sites (some domestic travel required).
Requirements for this position include:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or related fields with relevant industry experience.
- Proficiency in developing firmware for a variety of microcontrollers with demonstrated experience with STM32 MCUs (C, C++).
- Experience with the Arduino platform and ecosystem for rapid prototyping and development.
- Familiarity with implementing encryption algorithms (AES) is a plus.
- Experience in designing and implementing user interfaces for embedded devices (e.g., displays, touchscreens, LEDs).
- Experience with communication protocols (SPI, UART, I2C, RS-232, RS-485).
- Experience with wireless communication is a plus.
- Proficiency in data acquisition, processing, storage, and retrieval within embedded systems.
- Proficiency in schematic design and board layout (EAGLE PCB, Altium).
- Experience with word processing software and data analysis software.
