About the Opportunity
The Police Officer reports to the Chief of Police and shall perform such duties as are imposed upon them by the Village of Elk Rapids ordinances, statutes of the State of Michigan, departmental orders, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations. Police officers shall also assume duties conferred upon them by the Chief of Police. This role plays a key part in preventing and responding to criminal activities, ensuring the well-being of individuals and property within their jurisdiction.
Responsibilities:
- Perform such lawful duties as may be necessary to minimize the occurrence of deterrable crime.
- Identify, apprehend, and/or assist in the prosecution of persons who commit crimes and/or infractions.
- Facilitate the safe and orderly movement of people and vehicles within the Village.
- Seek to recover lost or stolen property, identify its lawful owner, and ensure its expeditious return.
- Provide, arrange, and/or assist in providing police emergency services.
- Assist, or arrange assistance, for those who cannot care for themselves.
- Provide, arrange, and/or assist in emergency first aid.
- Perform all police services consistent with statutes, ordinances, orders, policies, rules, and regulations. Police services are to be conducted in a manner which, in every instance, protects the constitutional rights of all people.
About You:
- Prior experience as a law enforcement officer.
- Possess Michigan Commission and Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) licensing.
- Adept at problem-solving.
- Strong analytical abilities.
- Adaptability to dynamic work environments.
